  • Supervisors must be campus-based, i.e. have their primary budgetary appointment in the Faculty of Medicine (status-only faculty are no longer eligible) 
  • A supervisor must be a principal investigator (PI) who holds an active tri-agency grant or has a pending application with one of those agencies at the start date of the UTEA (May 1st) (co-investigators are no longer eligible)
  • New this year, a Health & Life Sciences (HLS) sector was added and the competition will be adjudicated by the Temerty Faculty of Medicine.

• Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC)
  • Undergraduate Student Research Award (USRA) (1 award)

  • New this year, students who self-identify as Black or Indigenous will be funded by NSERC above and beyond the department's allocation.
  • Eligible faculty must hold a tenured, tenure-track or professor emeritus position or a contract position of no less than three continuous years.
  • Eligible faculty must be eligible to hold an NSERC (but do not currently have to have one) and must also have primary appointment and/or funds administered by the Department.
