She is also an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, as well as in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Toronto. She is an Associate Member of the Institute of Medical Sciences.

She received her PhD from the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (Brazil) in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Immunology.  After completion, she did her first postdoc at the same University investigating ancient genetic origin of the Brazilian population. She then moved to Toronto for her second postdoc where she started her current research line focused on mitochondrial genetic variation across neuropsychiatric disorders, as well as mitochondrial pharmacogenetics. She has been supported by the CAMH Foundation, University of Toronto, McLaughlin Centre, and Brain and Behavior Foundation (NARSAD).

AREAS OF RESEARCH
