MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR

The Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology is among the oldest in North America. We offer training in pharmacology and toxicology to both undergraduate and graduate students who may subsequently go on to exciting research, regulatory and administrative careers in academic, industrial, and healthcare provision settings. We also provide training to professional programs such as Medicine and Pharmacy.
Our faculty and research laboratories are located in the Medical Sciences Building (our administrative home) on the St. George campus in downtown Toronto as well as within a number of nearby university departments, faculties, university-affiliated research institutes and teaching hospitals. This strategic positioning also enables a wealth of potential opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration with internationally recognized investigators within one of the largest and densest existing concentrations of biomedical research expertise in North America.
As the largest pharmacology department in North America, we have a breadth of research interests. These are encompassed in our four research foci: Mechanisms of Drug Action & Drug Discovery; Drug Safety & Toxicology; Neuropharmacology & Addiction; and Variability in Drug Response & Pharmacogenetics. We are also a member of a number of interdepartmental graduate collaborative programs, including Biomedical Toxicology, Addiction Studies, Cardiovascular Sciences, Neuroscience, and Women's Health.
If you are a prospective undergraduate or graduate student and an exciting and rewarding career in pharmacology appeals to you, please don't hesitate to contact our office for further details on applying to one of our programs.
