I’m really delighted to announce that three faculty members have received awards for Excellence in Teaching.
Dr. Mac Burnham is the recipient of the 2021 award for Sustained Excellence and Innovation in Life Sciences Education. The award recognizes his sustained contributions to undergraduate education. Dr Burnham has been an instrumental and innovative driving force in Pharmacology and Toxicology education since 1974. He has demonstrated exceptional dedication, commitment, and talent. His courses are universally acclaimed by students.
Dr Amy Ramsey is the recipient of the 2021 award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching in Life Sciences Award. The award recognizes sustained excellence in teaching. Dr Ramsey has made significant contributions to the Life Sciences courses within the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, specifically her commitment, passion and talent for bringing the topic of Pharmacology and drugs in the brain to a broad audience, including non-science students. The course has been exceptionally well received by students from a breadth of disciplines.
Dr Walter Swardfager is the recipient of the 2021 award for Excellence in Linking Undergraduate Teaching to Research in Life Sciences. The award recognizes his sustained excellence, mentorship and innovative methods that link undergraduate teaching to experiential research opportunities. Dr Swardfager has made significant contribution to the Life Sciences courses within the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology. His dedication to providing hands-on experience to many undergraduate students demonstrate his important and tangible contributions to bringing research education to these students.
These awards honour the invaluable contribution of Drs Burnham, Ramsey and Swardfager to the educational mission of the Department. I would like to thank you all for your dedication and commitment to our undergraduate students. We are very grateful. These awards are very well deserved, and we are very proud of you.
